Philosophy behind the "New Approach" Directives

Technical specifications are not recited in the Directive
Technical specifications will be prepared by Standards Bodies
Conformity to Standards is NOT legally mandatory
Conformity to Standards provides a "Presumption of Conformity" with the Directive
The Legal Requirement is that NO INJURY will EVER be the fault of the product

Links to EUROPA: Lists of Harmonized Standards

The standards that provide the "presumption of conformity" with the Directives are referred to as "Harmonized" standards. What this means is that the TITLE of the Standard has been published in the Official Journal of the European Commission. These lists change from time to time, and the European Commission maintains an up-to-date list.
